Why Nursing as a career

Nurses are no strangers to lending a helping hand. Whether it’s assisting a doctor during surgery or helping a patient out of bed, nurses are accustomed to giving of themselves for the good of others. In fact, sometimes a nurse’s response to the needs of those around them seems so natural that people don’t realize just how much they do.

Here are 8 ways that nurses give back and make an impact:
  • Serve - Nurses provide their patients with a level of care that is unmatched by almost any other profession. From administering medicine to cleaning bed pans, nurses do what needs to be done to make their patients as healthy and happy as possible.
  • Inspire - Many nurses serve as role models, and not just for 5 year old girls who want to stick band aids over anything that resembles a wound. As active members of the community, nurses are looked up to and inspire others to give back to the community in their own way.
  • Volunteer - Despite having arguably one of the most stressful and hectic schedules in the workplace, many nurses volunteer their time to give back to the community. Blood drives and free medical clinics rely on medical professionals like nurses to volunteer their services so that they can continue to serve their patients.
  • Heal - You might be feeling better because of the medicine you took, but don’t underestimate the healing power of a good nurse. Nurses look after their patients and make sure that they’re being properly taken care of to ensure the quickest recovery time possible.
  • Educate - Have you ever talked to a nurse before? They are a treasure trove of medical information – even better than Web MD! They have seen and heard things that you wouldn’t imagine (not to mention some things you wouldn’t want to imagine). Their advice can be invaluable, especially when you just need someone to reassure you.
  • Assist - Need a helping hand? Nurses are pros when it comes to assisting their patients and fellow staff members. Like a good friend, they’re there 24 hours around the clock whenever you need them.
  • Support - One of the biggest ways that nurses make an impact is through their support. Illness and recovery is a long hard road for many patients, and the care of medical staff is critical to their success. Nurses give patients the support that they need to succeed.
  • Encourage - A friendly face and kind words go a long way. Nurses are a source of strength that patients can rely on during the tough times. As cheerleaders, nurses root for their patients to overcome any obstacle and are there for them even when they’re not having the best day.
